Handball turns digital

By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA
WITH the handball court now a restricted area due to the Covid-19, the Zambia under-17 and under-20 boys technical bench are now conducting on-line training sessions to ensure the players remain in shape for the International Handball Federation (IHF) Zone V1 trophy.
Despite the tournament which was scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe from April 24 -30 being deferred to an unknown date, the Zambian technical bench is not leaving anything to chance.
Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) president Victor Bwalya Banda said with the guidance from the IHF, the two teams have so far held successful on-line training sessions.
“The players need to keep fit despite the tournament having been postponed because once the deadly coronavirus ends, we won’t have enough time to prepare for the tournament,” Bwalya-Banda said
“So our players have two on-line training sessions each day. IHF also helps us with training videos and the boys are free to ask questions on the WhatsApp platform,” he said.
He was impressed with the players adherence levels to the training programme and urged them to remain disciplined.
Zambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, eSwatini, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi as well as the hosts Zimbabwe were expected to battle for IHF Zone VI trophy.
