THIEVES HAUL ECZ VOTERS’ CARD PRINTER

THIEVES have stolen the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) printer which was being used for voter registration at Twatasha Combined School in Kitwe.

The thieves, who broke into the head teacher’s office where the ECZ kit was being kept, also went away with a school printer and a national flag worth more than K13, 000
Copperbelt Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bothwell Namuswa, and Kitwe District Electoral Officer Mbulo Seke confirmed the incident which happened between Monday 21:00 hours and early hours of yesterday.
Mr Namuswa said the thieves entered the head teacher’s office through the roof.
He said, the first printer which belonged to ECZ was epson 23119 worth K6, 000 while the other printer belonging to the school was HC lazer jet also worth K6, 800
“Yes, we had a report of theft of two printers and a national flag. The first printer belonged to the ECZ and other printer belongs to Twatasha Combined School,” Mr Namuswa said
Chimwemwe Member of Parliament Mwila Mutale, condemned the incident, but was happy that police had launched police investigations into the matter.
“The problem I have found is that the kits were left with no one to guard it. Both the registration officer and the police officer knocked off minus securing the kit or leaving any one to guard it,” Mr Mutale said
